Position: Special Events Coordinator

Description: The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the production, facilitation and execution of Legends for Youth Baseball Clinics and events run by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.

Reports to: Manager of Special Events

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $25,000.00+ benefits after 90 days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and execution of new and established events
Manage event logistics including but not limited to: scheduling, budgets, venue, travel, lodging and setup/breakdown
Serve as liaison between former players, current players and partners (charity, organization and other)
Collaborate with third-party organization (teams, charities, foundations) for successful execution
Networking and generating new events while on the road and in office
Maintain relationships with team contacts and organizations
Increase revenue and participation for the clinic series and events department
Work collaboratively with the membership, marketing and communications departments

Qualifications and Preferred Skills:

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
Two to three years' experience in events, marketing and/or communications is preferred
Willing to travel extensively
Ability to maintain composure, think clearly and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
Comfortable speaking in front of large crowds
Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task on a variety of different projects
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Position: Intern, Membership and Development

Description: The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) Membership and Development Departments are seeking an organized, self-motivated, team oriented individual to assist with the planning and execution of Spring Training logistics. This internship will provide valuable experience in member recruitment, fundraising and event planning for students interested in non-profit sports management and administration. Interns may receive college credit; as this is an unpaid position.

Provide support during all aspects of Spring Training as it relates to the procurement of membership dues and donations obtained during the Spring Training process
              • Assist with entering player information into the database
              • Assist with ensuring information is accurate at team meetings
              • Help prepare for all 30 team visits by preparing packages and envelopes for individuals
Research and execute new member benefits for the Membership Department
Assist with International member recruitment through benefit research and program development
Assist with the organization and execution of MLBPAA’s licensing agreement process
Compose a solicitation letter for both the Membership and Development Departments
Assist with Alumni Day event series through management of RSVP’s and event materials
Recruitment of new members - to include on a monthly basis, performing follow-up calls to lapsed members, etc.
Provide support for Board of Director Meetings in January of 2016
Assist with distribution of Birthday cards through the Development’s stewardship program
Complete training in BlackBaud Raiser’s Edge database program

Breakdown of Duties:

50% - Spring Training Support (Recruitment and Fundraising efforts)
25% - Customer service by email and phone to former MLB players and other constituents
10% - Event support for Alumni Days Series and Board of Directors Meetings
15% - Other duties as assigned

Position: Internships

The MLBPAA is currently seeking interns to spend a quarter/semester in an experience-driven environment. Growing with the MLBPAA, the internship program provides a well-rounded experience by exposing participants to all facets of the organization, including but not limited to the following: day-to-day business operations, sales/marketing, event management, fundraising/development, public/media relations, budgeting, membership development, memorabilia sales and technology.

Interns will learn through hands-on experiences working with the MLBPAA's Swing with the Legends charity golf series, the Legends for Youth baseball clinic series, Legends Games, the membership and fundraising departments and Major League Alumni Marketing. The Alumni Association's internship program provides ample opportunities for its interns to gain experience and/or college credit in the sports industry, including opportunities to manage MLBPAA events.


Candidate must be working toward degree. Sports management/administration preferred
